The Dike ( Afsluitdijk, The Netherlands)

One relaxing Sunday when me and my boyfriend decided to go to see their popular DAM called “Afsluitdijk”which was amazingly made my HANDS with no machines used. It was constructed between 1927 and 1933 and running from +Den Oever on +Wieringen in North Holland province, to the village of Zurich in Friesland province, over a length of 32 kilometres (20 mi) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level.

As you can see their are two directions : A way going to Friesland Province and North Holland Province.

Statue of Lely

The man behind the DAM. He oversaw the passage of an act of parliament authorizing construction of the +Zuiderzee Works, a huge project – designed to his own plans – that turned the Zuiderzee into a lake and made possible the conversion of a vast area of former seabed into dry land. It was sculpted by +Mari Andriessen and dedicated on 23 September 1954, the 100th anniversary of Lely’s birth. A replica of this statue stands in the center of Lelystad, on a 35-metre (115 ft) high tower of +basalt blocks, designed by +Hans van Houwelingen. In Lelystad’s city hall is a statue of Lely made by +Piet Esser.
The wall where you can see the history of Afsluitdijk

Afsluitdijk was made by hands with the average round four to five thousand workers were involved with the construction every day, relieving some of the unemployment following the Great Depression

A bridge was made connected to another side of the Dam where you can cross to go to the other side.
